We are proud to announce that our next Get Involved Award Recipient is Armita Hosseini, a junior at Alexander Mackenzie High School in Canada. For her service project, she created a financial literacy program for teens worldwide.

Armita initially came up with an idea in September after publishing her very own book about financial literacy. Through this experience, she realized that a lot of students and adults worldwide are financially illiterate and she wanted to create a way for those people to learn personal finance.

The next step was to figure out how to create a meaningful learning experience for others to learn personal finance. For this, she drew inspiration from a virtual computer science camp she had attended. She remembered that during this camp, everyone was able to come together to form a group that was genuinely excited about learning. So, Armita made it her goal to recreate her computer science camp but for financial literacy instead.

Armita began messaging various people and in the end, she brought together 20 people to organize the event. Then, from December 20-22, the final event was launched. In all, there were 50 participants from 12 countries who participated in interactive games and listened to guest speakers. The most important takeaway from the program was that students gained newfound confidence in financial knowledge and the statistics show the numbers doubled.

Armita says that over the three days, the most enjoyable part of her program was seeing people enjoying and learning from her project. However, not only did it help other students, her endeavor also helped her learn about project management, setting deadlines, and being a leader. Additionally, her project has given her a growth mindset since she learned that she is capable of fulfilling her biggest dreams as long as she is open to learning, failure, and growth.

In the future, Armita hopes to continue to combine her love for learning and teaching to bring even more events regarding personal finance. She also hopes to expand her organization through chapters and even work with schools to create curriculum they can implement. See more about her organization at instagram.com/empowerecon.
