Signature Internship Projects
Here are a few of our more than 150 intern projects. And, even now during the pandemic, everything can be done virtually!
Senior Connectivity
Get Involved intern Stephanie Peng worked on a project to help out local seniors during COVID-19. She used outward mindset, design thinking, and grit to research about senior resources and later interviewed them. She then implemented a solution by producing and distributing informational flyers. Tech for Social Good
High school junior Brandon Wu helped improve a project with Project WeHope that helps homeless people locate shower trucks. Shower trucks are mobile trailers that offer showers and laundry services to the homeless, but are sometimes difficult to find. Brandon helped add features like map integration and admin controls to the Android app. See his presentation here.
Youth Mental Health
Emily Yao, a junior at Palo Alto High School who worked on a project surrounding youth mental health. Emily originally started her project by doing research around mental health in the Bay Area, in an effort to empathize with the audience. Since then, Emily has been hard at work creating a website that documents mental health stories, compiling resources, and promoting organizations. See her presentation here.
Jobs of Tomorrow
Palo Alto High School sophomore Annika Viswesh worked with Get Involved to create Jobs of Tomorrow, a career education program to help students from underserved communities become exposed to careers in STEM. Through her program, she aims to improve diversity and interest in these industries through short, engaging information sessions. Science @ Costaño
Gunn High School sophomore Hannah Zhang developed curriculum for her class at Costaño Elementary School in East Palo Alto, CA for students to learn more about technology and engineering. She created interactive activities, administered surveys, and created her own games to supplement each lesson. See more at coolscience.carrd.co.
Financial Literacy @ Ravenswood
With the help of Get Involved, Katherine Cheng created curriculum for and instructed an after-school class on financial literacy for students at Ravenswood Middle School in East Palo Alto, CA. During her lessons on basic financial and economic skills, she incorporated basketball and sports terms to explain these concepts.
Human Anatomy for Youth
With Get Involved, Ankith Maremanda created Human Anatomy for Youth, a multi-chapter organization dedicated to teaching students about the human body and its functions. Now a sophomore at Johns Hopkins University, Ankith has recruited other students to teach his curriculum in schools across the Bay Area. Learn more about his program at humananatomyforyouth.org.
Onyxx Village Connection
Jules Thomas co-founded Onyxx Village Connection, a Get Involved Foundation partner organization that delivers free, hot meals to the hungry in East Palo Alto and other neighborhoods. He delivers over 300 hot meals each week, as well as providing clothes and shoes to individuals in need. Learn more about Jules’ program at onyxxvillageconnection.org.
Robotics for All
Maximilian Goetz created Robotics for All, a Get Involved Foundation partner organization that aims to educate students from low-income communities around the nation on STEM concepts. Maximilian, along with high school volunteers and fellow board members, develop an engaging and intuitive curriculum that has reached over 500 students.
